Reloaded LAN report - Part 1 the begining....
Posted By: Wookie

I apologise for the delay's...so heres the first half of the report. Most of the day two stuff will come online as soon as i can arrange it.

For most, Reloaded started on the Australia Day weekend, but for the Admin team they had to show up on the friday to transfer and empty venue into what was to be the biggest lan event in some years.

Australia Day was a balmy summers day. The sun was shining, the birds were singing...it was perfect LAN weather for yet another Reloaded event. With tickets sold out 3 days earlier and much cash and prizes to be won, it was no surprise that a queue had started to form as eager lanners started arriving from 9am to get in. However, it wasnt until 11am that the doors would open and the largest lan event held in recent times would begin here in Adelaide.

People came from all over to be part of this occasion, from every state and overseas to enjoy the bounty that was on offer should they triumph over their enemies. The big names in almost every competition were here Sydney Underground and SQL in the Source competition, Legionaire for the StarCraft Competition, Team Immunity for World in Conflict. Many new faces could be seen in the crowd, and many people long thought missing or dead came out of the woodwork to enjoy the event.

A dozen stallholders and vendors from all over setup to show their wares at the event, including Altech, Thermaltake, Ballistic Publishing, LG, Giftsforthegeek.com.au, Inkei Design, Game Generation, Ambassadors for Youth and Development, MEGA, AVCON and Adelaide Online Computers.

Reloaded was pleased to have Altech Computers and the Team AU overclockers at this event. While they failed to set any records here, they did some awesome demonstrations which were keenly attended by many.

Reloaded was also lucky to have Altech Computers bring 20 of its state of the art NRG systems down, which were gladly used by Sydney Undersground, Team immunity, SQL and others. For more information on nrg systems and where to purchase them please visit the altech website: www.altech.com.au

As always, there were the ever popular Red Bull and Razer girls. Part of what I refer to as the "Wookie Guarantee" - that is 50% more chicks per lan. So far, I think we are living up to this standard.

The there was what everyone had come for...the competitions and prizes! Over $75,000 in prizes and $20,000 in cash was allocated this year, and as a result attracted some keen competition. We upgraded this year from the prize table...to the prize stage!

To add even more prestige to the event we were visited by the shouitcasting crew from Gamestah who came down for Brisbane and across from Perth with very little notice to do the event.

With almost 40 competitions to be run over the 32 hours of the event, there's a lot to cover, so I should really get started hahaha. This report borrows from people who saw it all first hand and blatantly copies review information from elsewhere.

Battlefield 2
This was the first tournament to get underway at Reloaded LAN. The promise of numerous teams dimished into a line-up of 3, the Noobs, the Aussie Universal Soldiers and the AusStrokers. The Aussie Universal Soldiers were the only clan based team attending. Their history in the Battlefield community is extensive and they always play hard but fair. Their performance and sportsmanship at Reloaded LAN certainly reinforced their quality reputation. The Noobs on the other hand were the opposite. A bunch of randoms who pulled together to play Battlefield in a competitive format, many for the very first time. They really took it to their more highly fancied opposition and caused some heart stopping moments. They were certainly assassinated with their pants down on the scoreboard, but the went down fighting and earned the respect of the entire Gamestah team for their efforts.

So this leaves the other team. The AusStrokers. Where do we start of this mob. In their own words, this team was not a championship team but a team of champions. Under the leadership of the well respected Saddam, the team comprised a raft of well known, and possibly less respected, members of the Australian

Battlefield community. Big names including Dawson, Budzilla and the ever popular Westy were welcome guests in the Gamestah Studio.

The format of the event was 8v8 BF2 Pro Ladder Mod round-robin with each team playing each other. The outcome of this, albeit predictable, saw the AusStrokes taking on the Aussie Universal Soldiers. Whilst the battle was intense with nades flying in all directions, the AusStrokers sent the Aussie Universal Soldiers packing with a complimentary "I love Saddam" mouse pad and a jar of KY Jelly. The final score 183-0 to the AusStrokers.

Call of Duty 4
I was asleep when this happened. So again, Im going to have to take the word of the guys at gamestah, who apparrently assisted in the running of the competition. My thanks to you.
Well this was the big one for Momo and Sacrifice. COD4 is their primary game for e-sports broadcasting and the scheduled start time of 1.00am had them pumped to the max. Sacrifice was drafted into help run the tournament and assist ZR:Sunjo who himself was voluntarily nominated as the Tournament Admin approximately 8 minutes prior to it starting. A number of teams participated in the highly-talked-about event. The format followed the popular competitive ruleset established at CyberGamer.com.au by Asterix.

The Gamestah team casted teams like TBA and AUZ in the early rounds before the finals started and some strong teams came to the fore. Zero Remorse were able to tank TBA to move into the Semi-Final which they comfortably won. In the other Semi-Final, it was Defiance going up against the high-regarded Frag Addix.

Defiance was causing a stir with their unexpected success. This team comprises mainly of those from the successful AusStrokers and their Captain Westy certainly played well enough to deserve attention. It was however, the Frag Addix who won the day and marched into the Grand Final against the arch enemy, Zero Remorse.

The Grand Final line-up was predicted in advance by the CyberGamer.com.au COD4 community. The poll was run days prior to the event and of the 203 votes cast,

ZR were tipped as favourites with a whopping 68% of the vote leading the Frag Addix next best on 14%. The best of three map Grand Final got underway on Backlot. The first map went  in favour of ZR with a score line of 13-7 and it was quickly followed by a 13-6 win on Crash. The Frag Addix fought very hard all the way but the Zero Remorse team, lead by the brilliance of Choda, was simply too strong on the day.

Quake 3 1v1 and UT3 1v1

With rumors that Python might be in the house under a different name, we were looking forward to Unholeee getting the pants thrashed off him. Fortunately this appeared to be the case and he finished second in a prestigious lineup.

UT3 was taken out by senevre.

Console Comps Part A

It looked like a good decision to split the Guitar hero tourney into 2 divisions where competitors could  show off their preferred level of skill, and plenty of people showed up in the cold on court 4 to play.

Also out in the dark and cold, the super smash brothers melee competitions were taking place, the winners are pictured below -

RTS Comps Part A

In the midst of people killing and "fragging", there was the more technical and strategic competitions going on. Starcraft was well participated in, but as most predicted it was Legionaire who swooped on the cash, sweeping all before him. Team Immunity guys comfortably accounted for the first 3 placings in the

World in Conflict comp (3rd place fell to an immunity member/legionaire combo)

The Team immunity guys again cleaned up at the Warcraft 3 competition winning all 3 places -

Bucket and hell Rok cleaned up Supreme Commander

Counter Strike 1.6
I may also have been asleep when this was on lol
Sunday morning, 9am. Stomach = empty, Sleep < 2 hours, enthusiam approaching zero, evening highlight - Glimmer and Momo sharing a beanbag (note to Ej, camera required for the mobile studio in future). Glimmer is the pro when it comes to CounterStrike with his years of covering the game including major international events such as ESWC and WCG. Momo and Sacrifice were more like wtf is this crap - its like CS source gone emo. Suffice to say, Momo's experience with CS:S enabled him to quickly figure it all out and provide some support to Glimmer. It was an exciting tournament and it started in the early rounds with coverage of M8S and Xtreme Gaming. The XG had their fan club in IRC spamming it up and getting shoutouts every five minutes - mainly lead by Gamestah Fan Club leader Brando supported by Steve. OnePointSecs played Equal Last and then it was Vamped and Alternate.

Vamped won that match and subsequently went into the Grand Final undefeated and as favourite. Alternate were able to return to form and win through to play them yet again. The double-elimination format meant that Alternate would have to come back against the odds and beat Vamped not once, but twice in order to take the 1st price. And this is exactly what they did. The firely team took it straight to Vamped and didn't let up. They certainly played well and deserved their victory on the day.
Case Mod Comp

For the first time at reloaded we ran a case mod competition, our photographers stealthily weeding out the wheat from the chaff to find the best and most innovative in case mod work.

Then there were the contenders -

Reloaded is over for 2008, and we'd like to thank those who attended in any capacity. it was good to see so many new faces, and so many old ones seemingly back from the dead.

The Reloaded Committee would like to thank all of our sponsors who made this event possible including our title sponsor Adam Internet, our major sponsors, Altech and NRG Systems, Thermaltake, Mega and the South Australian Government, and Sierra. Reloaded would also like to thank all of our other sponsors, vendors and stallholders who made it down on the day. Mention should also be made of the Team AU overclockers and the Gamestah shoutcasting crew as well.
